When you’re traveling, getting from Point A to Point B may seem like the only important factor. However, if you have a long flight, how you travel may become more important. If you have never had the opportunity to fly first class, here is a look at a few perks that might make you reconsider your flight option on your next trip.
Room
You have most likely noticed the first perk as you walk past first class to the coach seating area: first class seating has more room. While you might not be concerned about the size of your seat on a short flight, if you’re flying cross-country or overseas, having the extra leg room and seat room makes a big difference. For international flights, some airlines have seats that recline a full 180 degrees, converting into a bed complete with real sheets. Deluxe accommodations are available on some flights, offering “suites” furnished with a private TV and workstation, with dividers for privacy. If you’ll be stuck in your seat for many hours, your comfort might be worth the bigger price tag.
Food
Many flights offer coach passengers a complementary in-flight beverage service with a small snack such as pretzels or peanuts. However, in first class, the food offerings are usually much greater. Depending on the airline and destination, your beverages may be served in real glasses, and your meals (not just peanuts) may be served on real dishes. Some airlines even offer multi-course gourmet meals to first-class passengers. These meals, along with snacks and both alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, are usually complementary in first class.
Entertainment
If you really want the star treatment when it comes to entertainment during your flight, first class is the place for you. Entertainment options in first class are significantly better than those in coach. Many first-class seats have personal power stations for your personal electronics. In addition, some airlines offer high-end entertainment consoles to first-class passengers, complete with movies, on-demand TV shows, games and music. In addition, don’t forget about the free noise-canceling headphones.
While you are looking up last minute hotels and booking your flight for your next trip, keep an open mind when it comes to reserving that airplane seat. If you haven’t flown first-class before, it might just be worth it to make the upgrade. With first-class accommodations, your travel can be just as enjoyable as the vacation itself.
